On July 12, 2019, the semiannual closing meeting of the “Socio-Psychological Assistance to Syrian Refugees” project of Aleppo Compatriotic Charitable Organization (Aleppo-NGO) took place. Dzovig Magarian-Baitarian, Co-Founder and Vice President of Aleppo-NGO, gave a welcome speech and represented the special guest Alla Sarkisova, project officer of WCC Armenia Round Table Foundation.
In her speech, Alla Sarkisova said that she follows the activities of the members of the “Socio-Psychological Assistance to Syrian Refugees”. She expressed hope that the meetings and related initiatives within the framework of the program will continue and further contribute to the process of Syrian women’s rehabilitation.
In February, 2015, as a result of cooperation between WCC Armenia Round Table Foundation and Aleppo-NGO, the “Socio-Psychological Assistance to Syrian Refugees” project launched for 6 months. After the program, with the strong desire of Syrian women, the project continued to operate within Aleppo-NGO.
Alla Sarkisova presented the current programs of the WCC Armenia Round Table Foundation, highlighted the importance of humanitarian assistance and opportunities for development of Syrian refugees and their integration into the Armenian society. Members of the project presented their proposals regarding future meetings, visits and initiatives that they would like to implement within the framework of the abovementioned program. The representative of the WCC Armenia Round Table Foundation mentioned that all opinions will be taken into consideration to see the chances of further cooperation.
During the meeting, crucial issues like housing and pension issues of Syrian refugees were discussed. The participants expressed their concerns and suggestions regarding the solution of this kind of multifaceted problems.
The members of the program said goodbye to each other in a cordial atmosphere with the expectation of restarting meetings in September.
As a reminder, Aleppo-NGO’s “Social-psychological Assistance to Syrian Refugees” program is organized free of charge. The aim of the meetings is to provide support to those who lived through the conflict in Syria and continue to struggle with psychological side effects. The program’s mission is to assist in survivors’ rehabilitation and help them reintegrate into Armenian civil life.
The meetings and events of the project are organized by the Coordinating body: Dzovig Makarian-Baytarian, Mayta Chavushian, Vania Mesriyeh Karadjian, Sosie Nalchajian Kahkejian and assistant Salpi Karagulian.
