Feast of St. Sarkis Brought Together Local and Syrian-Armenian Youth in Motherland
On January 22, 2016, the festive event brought together more than 100 local and Syrian-Armenian young people to celebrate the Feast of St. Sarkis, the patron of youth and love. Young people sung songs and danced at the new location of the “Aleppo” Compatriotic Charitable Organization.
The event was organized by the joint initiative of the “Aleppo” CCO and World Armenian Youth Network, WostAYN.
The event began with the words of the Rev. Fr. Vardan Gapoyan, the Priest at St. Gevorg Church of Noragavit. The Priest talked about the significance and traditions of this holiday, and emphasized that young people are able to achieve their dreams only through strong belief.
Young people had the opportunity to ask questions to the Priest. The members of Teen council of the “Aleppo” Organization performed the traditional dance of Kessab. “FYCA Band” of the Federation of Youth Clubs, young people’s orchestra of the “Aleppo” Organization and local young teens performed folk and patriotic songs. Many other youngsters also feathered the event by folk songs and dance performances.
The participants of the event received thematic gifts from the Ararat Patriarchal Diocese. The Game winners received gifts from “Mughdusyan” Art Center and “VanArt” handicrafts Initiative.
The hosts of the event were “Aleppo” CCO’s youth council chairperson Hakob Kazanjian and WostAYN’s volunteer Karina Gevorgyan. The event ended with the circle dance by young people symbolizing unity and cohesion. The event attended by the executive board members of “Aleppo” Organization, WostAyn and Federation of Youth Clubs, as well as representatives of the RA Ministry of Diaspora.
