Family, unity, power, joy, change, fatherland, encouragement, brother-sister, friendship, longing, peace – words expressed from the bottom of the heart. And this is how 38 Syrians described their feelings during their participation in the socio-psychological support program launched on February 2015 as a result of collaboration between World Council of Churches Armenia Inter-Church Round Table Foundation and Aleppo Compatriotic Charitable Organization.

On May 24th, the program’s last meeting took place at Aleppo CCO’s center. Alla Sarkissova, representative of WCC Armenia Round Table Foundation responsible for the program, expressed her encouragement and gratitude, highly appreciating the importance of socio-psychological support in the lives of Syrians who went through war and found themselves in a difficult psychological situation. Mrs. Sarkissova highlighted the successful results achieved throughout the program, which fostered active involvement of Syrians in civil life of Armenia. Alla Sarkissova also expressed her gratitude to the Aleppo CCO for supporting the initiative and helping to bring the program to life.

In her turn, representative of Aleppo CCO Hayasa Tahmazyan welcomed the guests and on behalf of the organization expressed her deep gratitude to the WCC Armenia Round Table Foundation for sparing no effort in providing support to Syrians who moved to Armenia. She also highlighted the role of psychologist Lusine Khandanyan for providing socio-psychological support to the participants of the program.

Ms. Tahmazyan noted that being aware of the fact that most important areas of humanitarian assistance contain socio-psychological components which play an important role in the process of recovery of those who survived tragical events, and taking into consideration the results of the program, Aleppo CCO undertook to continue the program of free socio-psychological assistance for Syrians. And on June 3, at 16:00, the next meeting of socio-psychological assistance will take place at Aleppo CCO’s center.
