Aleppo Compatriotic Charitable NGO’s Committee for Western Armenian Language met with the Minister of Education and Science of Armenia

On February 22, 2017, the Minister of Education and Science of Armenia Levon Mkrtchyan hosted a meeting with the founding president of the Aleppo Compatriotic Charitable NGO Ani Balkhian and members of the Committee formed in the aftermath of the “Western Armenian Language in Armenia: Challenges, Perspectives” conference – Doctor of History, teacher of Western Armenian language Hakob Cholakyan, publicist and analyst Hakob Mikayelyan, candidate of historical sciences Ani Fishenkjian, philologist Mihran Minasyan and student of Institute for Armenian Studies of Yerevan State University Avetis Aposhyan.

Last year, on November 26, with the initiative of the Aleppo Compatriotic Charitable NGO, the “Western Armenian Language in Armenia: Challenges, Perspectives” conference was organized in Yerevan, which aimed at finding solutions to preservation of Western Armenian language and issues of its development in Armenia.

As a result of the conference, the Committee for preservation and usage of Western Armenian language was formed.

During the meeting, offers and suggestions based on the recommendations brought up during the conference were presented to the Minister of Education and Science of Armenia Levon Mkrtchyan.

Highly appreciating and stressing the importance of the activities of the Committee, the Minister of Education and Science of Armenia Levon Mkrtchyan expressed his readiness to support and assist the Committee in creating an objective platform for preservation and usage of Western Armenian language.
