On July 12, 2019, a discussion was held in the National Assembly of the RA titled “Issues and Possible Solutions of Refugees and Asylum Seekers” and dedicated to the World Refugee Day, with the participation of Anna-Carin Öst – UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Armenia, deputies, representatives of Migration Service, Government and a number of organizations.

During the meeting, Ani Balkhian, Founding President of the Aleppo Compatriotic Charitable Organization (Aleppo-NGO), voiced the need to solve housing issues of Syrian refugees, and Sarkis Balkhian, Executive Director of Aleppo-NGO, highlighted the problems connected with labor rights of Syrian refugees in Armenia.

Representatives of Aleppo-NGO made several suggestions regarding the solutions of the abovementioned topics, in particular, the ability of Syrian refugees to take housing loans with affordable conditions.

Housing, pension issues, preferential mortgage loans, obstacles of cultural, social integration, cases of segregation in Armenia, the unsolved problems of refugees from Azerbaijan and the necessity of the implementation of complex strategy and programs for Syrian-Armenians and Iraqi-Armenians were among the topics discussed within the meeting.
