120th Anniversary of Yervand Kochar: Visit to Yervand Kochar Museum

On September 20, 2019, 60 members of the “Socio-psychological Assistance to Syrian Refugees” project of the Aleppo Compatriotic Charitable Organization (Aleppo-NGO) visited the House-Museum of famous Armenian painter-sculptor Yervand Kochar on the occasion of  120th anniversary of Kochar.

The members were kindly welcomed by Lala Kochar and Karin Kochar, directors of the House-Museum. Mrs. Karin Kochar represented the life and three different periods of the activity of Kochar: paintings and sculptures in his hometown of Tiflis, then in Paris, and his subsequent homeland in Armenia.

The visitors got acquainted with the masterpieces of Kochar, including “Saint Davit”, “Vardan Mamikonyan”, “War” etc.

The visitors listened to Karin Kochar with great satisfaction and interest, who beautifully and impressively presented Kochar’s works as a founder of painting in Space.

The visit had great influence on the members of the project, especially the cordial conversations by Lala Kochar with the visitors. Lala Kochar expressed interest in the activity and programs of  the Aleppo-NGO. At the end of the meeting Dzovig Magarian-Baitarian, Co-Founder and Vice-President of Aleppo-NGO, wrote a note in the Memorial Book of the Museum and expressed deep gratitude for providing an opportunity to visit the Museum.  A symbolic amount given to the house-museum was donated by philanthropist Maral Karagashian.

As a reminder, Aleppo-NGO’s “Socio-psychological Assistance to Syrian Refugees” program is organized free of charge. The aim of the meetings is to provide support to those who lived through the conflict in Syria and continue to struggle with psychological side effects. The program’s mission is to assist in survivors’ rehabilitation and help them reintegrate into Armenian civil life.
