The Artsakh-Azerbaijani war, which began on September 27, 2020, had catastrophic consequences for Artsakh people. The war had also a huge impact on the continuing education of the Artsakh youth. Aleppo-NGO and WCC Armenia Round Table Foundation, taking into account the financial inability of Artsakh students in terms of continuing education, in November 2020  announced an open scholarship competition for Artsakh students within the framework of the “Bright Future for Youth” project.

As a result, at the end of December, within the framework of the above-mentioned project, scholarships were provided to 72 students studying in Armenian and Artsakh universities.

In total 112 students applied for the scholarship program of the “Bright Future for Youth” project for the reimbursement of the tuition fee. The selection of applicants was made with the participation of Sarkis Balkhian, the Executive Director of Aleppo-NGO, Araks Martirosyan, the Project Coordinator, Tsovinar Ghazaryan, Projects Director of the WCC Round Table Foundation, Rubina Devrikyan, Program Manager, and Syrian-Armenian youth Avo Aposhean.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission conducted the discussion online. The financial situation of each applicant and the level of need were studied in detail. As a result of the considerations made by the members of the Commission, 72 students representing 15 universities in Armenia and Artsakh were selected.

Within the framework of the “Bright Future for Youth” project, scholarships were provided to 47 local, Syrian-Armenian, Lebanese-Armenian students in October 2020. In general,  throughout 2020, 164 scholarships were awarded to high-achieving and vulnerable students studying in the paid system. The scholarship holders are citizens of Armenia, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Lebanon.

The “Bright Future for Youth” project was launched on 1 February 2020. The project aims to develop the skills of Syrians, Iraqi and other refugees, and local youth, by providing them with scholarships, capacity building trainings, and ensuring work experience through professional internships.
