How to Save a Life: Syrian Youth Participates in a “General First Aid” Training

On June 23, 2018, “Aleppo” Compatriotic charitable non-governmental organization (Aleppo-NGO) welcomed Syrian refugee youth to participate in a training titled “First Aid”.

The training was organized within the framework of “Better Future for Syrian-Armenian Youth” project made possible due to cooperation between “Aleppo” Compatriotic charitable non-governmental organization (Aleppo-NGO) and the WCC Armenia Round Table Foundation.

Laura Samvelyan, the project coordinator, welcomed the participants with a speech: “I am very excited to welcome you all to the office of Aleppo-NGO. I am hopeful that today you will learn how to save someone’s life, in case an unfortunate event presents itself.”

From cuts to burns to fractures and nosebleeds, many accidents take place every day. Understanding “First Aid” procedures will better equip the participants in emergency situations, as well as mean the difference between life and death of the person nearby.

This class was based on providing theoretical and practical knowledge to the participants and was conducted by experienced and certified trainers from Armenian Red Cross Society, who provided a top-notch training using first aid tools, kits, and various equipment.

During this 8-hour-long course, the participants examined the basic “First Aid” procedures, at the end of which the participants were tested on the knowledge that they have received. The participants learned about emergency action principles, as well as how to provide help to people suffering from burns, soft tissue injuries, bleeding, poisoning, and many more.

At the end of the training, all participants received an internationally recognizable certificate from Red Cross.

As a reminder, the “Better Future for Syrian-Armenian Youth” project aims to provide Syrian refugee youth, who have arrived in Armenia as a result of the Syrian conflict, new knowledge, and skills, promoting their development and self-realization in Armenian civil life.
