During the week of March 26-30, the schools of the Republic of Armenia were closed for spring break. More than 20 Syrian-Armenian children and youth spent their break at a day camp held at Aleppo-NGO.
On March 28 and March 29, the well-known educator, author, and stage director Hagop Mikaelian visited the camp, where he engaged the children in discussions of Western Armenian and Armenian history, taught an acting class, and directed an impromptu dramatic performance.
Mr. Mikaelian–who has decades of experience teaching in the Armenian schools of Aleppo– established a warm rapport with the children and helped them to understand the unique importance of Western Armenian.
Aleppo-NGO places a high priority on organizing activities for students’ free time, and operates permanent youth groups, which provide Syrian-Armenian children and teenagers with enriching educational and social opportunities.
Aleppo-NGO’s youth groups meet every Saturday from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM. There are separate groups for children aged 4-9 and those aged 10-16. Meetings take place at Aleppo NGO’s headquarters at 11 Northern Avenue, -1 floor. To register or for more information, please call 010 54 54 69 or 098 54 53 61.
