On February 7, 2020, the Coordinating body of “Socio-psychological Assistance to Syrian Refugees” project of Aleppo Compatriotic Charitable Organization (Aleppo-NGO), held its second meeting of the ongoing year at Aleppo-NGO’s office with the participation of 34 members.
Co-founding Vice President of Aleppo-NGO, Dzovig Makarian-Baitarian gave a welcome speech to attendees. On the occasion of “Barekendan” Armenian festival, a voluntary member of the Coordinating body, Dr. Mayda Chavoushian made a speech about kind traditions of “Barekendan”, which is one of the most popular and joyful festivals, as well as about the rituals related to the awakening of nature, masked symbols, song and dance and a happy and free atmosphere during the two-week of the festival. Dr. Chavoushian also presented the “Ուտիս տատ (Utis)” doll, which in those days, symbolized “Barekendan” and was the image of encouraging the people to enjoy abundant food.
The guest speaker of the meeting was Liana Bakhtikyan, the graduate of Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport, Director of Fitness Mix-Jumping, Your Friend Health, and Coral Club.
The speaker talked about the importance of regular eating, breakfast, dietetic food, local products, which are more nutritious and useful. Ms. Bakhtikian encouraged to lead a vibrant life, avoid having “sitting life” and stressed the importance of “walking” as a substitute for exercise.
By the dictation of Liana Bakhtikian, the attendees performed exercises with dance moves under the rhythms of music with great enthusiasm. In the end, the presentees were served with sweets and coffee. The meeting ended with warm wishes.

As a reminder, the free socio-psychological assistance meetings at Aleppo-NGO provide support to Syrians who went through the war and find themselves experiencing psychological side effects, helping them to recover and become actively involved in the civil life of Armenia. The meetings take place every Friday at 13:00, at Aleppo-NGO’s office. The address is 11 Northern Avenue, -1 floor (entrance from Abovyan street).
